New CMS Memo’s Released Regarding COVID-19 Public Reporting on Nursing Home Compare Website
QSO 20-32 NH outlines the release of the NHSN information you have been submitting to the CDC NHSN website. This information will be made available to the public and can be reviewed by your residents and families, facilities, and stakeholders. The link to information will be posted on the Nursing Home Compare website, under the “Spotlight” section. The information posted will include your facility name, the reported number of confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19 (including residents and staff), resident deaths related to COVID-19, availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 testing, and potential staffing shortages. It is very important that when you add new information into NHSN each week, you are only adding the actual number of changes since your last reporting period, do not keep adding the cumulative numbers, only new numbers. If you have any questions about NHSN, WA State DOH has a fabulous resource person, Larissa Lewis, and she is able to look in NHSN and see what issues you might be having and help correct them.
QSO 20-33 NH outlines the posting of the complaint investigations that have occurred since March 4th, as well as the targeted infection control surveys that have been done. All surveys conducted on or after March 4th, 2020 will be available through a link on the Nursing Home Compare website. The link will take users to a file that includes the following information:
- A spreadsheet listing each health inspection conducted, the facility’s demographic information, and findings (i.e., citations) from the inspection.
- A file with the Statement of Deficiencies (CMS-2567) from each inspection at a facility level.
- A spreadsheet showing the number and percentage of surveys that each state has conducted.
This information will be posted on June 4th, 2020, on the Nursing Home Compare home page, in the “Spotlight” section and will be updated on a monthly basis.
