Advocacy Champions speak up for the people and communities we serve—connecting providers, residents, and families with lawmakers to shape the policies that will define the future of aging services in Washington and across the nation.
Role of an Advocacy Champion
Advocacy Champions serve as the key point of contact between their organization and LeadingAge Washington on state and federal advocacy efforts. They help foster a culture of advocacy, keeping others informed, engaged, and inspired to take action.
LeadingAge Washington will support you by:
- Providing regular advocacy updates, alerts, and resources.
- Offering templates and tools to help you engage others.
- Recognizing outstanding Advocacy Champions who go above and beyond to make an impact.
If you’re ready to strengthen the voice of aging services, sign up today as an Advocacy Champion—and invite one emerging leader or team member from your organization to join you in this important role.
Advocacy Champions make an impact by:
Staying Informed
Read policy updates from LeadingAge Washington and LeadingAge National. Pay close attention to the issues that most impact your organization and community.
Being Responsive
Participate in Calls to Action by sending emails or calling representatives to share your perspective. Consider testifying—either in person or virtually—during legislative hearings to help lawmakers understand the real-world impact of their decisions.
Helping Us Mobilize
Develop a local “advocacy network” of residents, family members, team members, and board leaders who care about the future of aging services. Encourage them to stay engaged and ready to act.
Maintaining Visibility
Forward LeadingAge Washington’s advocacy alerts to your network and invite others to send personalized messages to their representatives. Share updates and resources to keep advocacy visible and accessible in your community.
Building an Advocacy Network
Host a visit or meeting with elected officials—either in person or virtually—to share your community’s story and priorities. Invite legislators to your campus to meet residents and staff. Encourage others to join you at LeadingAge Washington’s Advocacy Day in Olympia and LeadingAge National’s Lobby Day in Washington, D.C.
