Supply shelves, whether in dietary, housekeeping or maintenance should be stacked with safety in mind. Heavy items should not be placed at height overhead. Lifting items from over-the- shoulder heights can result in shoulder and neck strains. There is also the potential that heavy supplies could fall and injure employees. Heaviest objects should be stacked at waist level or below. This reduces physical strain of picking up the item and minimizes the potential for and impact of heavy items that are dropped.
