Voting Information from Secretary of State

Voting Information from Secretary of State

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the meeting today with Secretary of State, Kim Wyman and Elections Director Lori Augino.  They were able to share very good information for how to assist residents with voting.

Attached you will find the talking points for Voting in Assisted Living. These same talking points pertain to skilled nursing. One point they stressed more than once, it is never OK for someone else to “fill in the blank” and vote for the resident.  Assistance with voting is OK, voting for them is not.

The most important take away from this meeting was, the resident maintains the right to voice who they would like to assist them with voting, If they want assistance with voting, where they want their ballot mailed, and if they would like to cancel their voting rights. Only a court is able to take away the right to vote based on cognition.
