Virtual Training: Fair Housing Update for Administrators and Staff begins April 14th

 Fair Housing Update for Housekeeping and Maintenance (day 1)

  • April 14, 2021 * 8:00 – 9:00 (Pacific)

The session will cover Fair Housing Act for housekeeping and maintenance staff. Housekeeping and Maintenance staff are the frontline staff that residents interact with from day to day. It is important that the frontline staff understand the Fair Housing Act as it relates to communication with the residents. Some topics of discussion will be prohibition of discrimination and the “protected categories” and privacy and confidentiality of resident’s personal information. Other topics will be covered.

Fair Housing Update for Administrative and All Staff (day 2 and 3)

  • April 20, 2021 Part 1 and
  • April 22, 2021 Part 2

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. (Pacific) each day

This session will cover the Fair Housing Act for administrative and leasing staff.  Topics of covered is landlord harassment, criminal records (the do’s and don’ts), the Supreme Court’s expansion of the definition of sex to include sexual orientation and gender identify. COVID -19 issues including terminations during the moratorium. A view of the requirements for providing reasonable accommodations for challenging residents will also be covered. This session will be in two parts on the above dates and times.

Speaker Bio: Kathelene (Kathi) Williams, Fair Housing Institute

Ms. Williams is a partner in the firm of Williams Edelstein Tucker, P.C. providing defense and preventative representation for the housing industry in all civil rights matters. Kathelene also is a founding partner of the Fair Housing Institute, Inc. a full-service online training firm whose mission is to provide convenient and affordable fair housing education to the housing industry throughout the country. Ms. Williams represents housing industry clients from throughout the country on fair housing and other civil rights matters. Ms. Williams provides her clients with a unique expertise in the fair housing requirements of senior and federally assisted housing and has contributed to numerous housing industry publications. In her previous positions, Ms. Williams served as a fair housing attorney and as Director of the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Program for HUD’s Southeast Region. Throughout her career, Ms. Williams has participated in the investigation, resolution, and litigation of thousands of fair housing cases. In addition to her responsibilities as an attorney, Ms. Williams is a nationally known fair housing trainer, providing training to private housing providers, associations, and government entities throughout the country for the past thirty-five years.
