Deffet Group, Inc. is pleased to have been retained by Horizon House to conduct an executive search for a Chief Executive Officer. This is a one-of-a-kind community with the amenities that support energetic and engaged residents. There are over 60 resident-driven committees that plan events, activities, and make decisions that impact their daily lives.

Located just steps from the heart of downtown Seattle, Horizon House is a vibrant not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) established in 1961. The campus totals approximately 1,000,000 square feet, spanning four connected buildings and four city blocks. Served by 228 highly dedicated team members, more than 480 residents 62 years+ call this beautiful campus home. Annual revenue is $32 million.

Horizon House is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the community in meeting the needs of the next generation. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, this individual will be a hands-on, articulate leader with a deep passion for senior living and proven ability in developing and implementing strategic plans. The ideal candidate has proven visioning capabilities and forecasts the future of senior living. They will enhance Horizon House’s outstanding reputation by being highly visible to the surrounding community while remaining focused on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. The CEO values an inclusive approach, regards cultural and ethnic diversity as important to a dynamic community, and is committed to employee growth and engagement.

Experience in strategic planning, organizational communication, project management, critical business thinking, and leadership is essential. Health care and/or not-for-profit experience of at least three years is helpful but not required.

From a leadership standpoint, they must have a values-based leadership style and excel in oral and written communication. The CEO understands and embraces the resident-driven culture of Horizon House and is accessible to residents, encouraging their engagement and working closely with the Residents’ Council and its committees to understand resident issues and collaborate on solutions to improve the resident experience.

The successful candidate for this position will have a minimum of seven years’ experience in a private industry setting and a bachelor’s degree in a related area of study; MBA is strongly preferred.

Compensation consists of a base salary ranging from $350,000 to $400,000 and bonus potential of 25% of base. Additional benefits include retirement plans, paid time off (252 hours of PTO plus nine paid holidays), a 403(b) with 50% match (up to 6% of a 12% total contribution), and paid sick leave in accordance with state law and local ordinances.
