Healthcare Coalition Communications Exercise * December 6th, 10:00 a.m. Register Today!

On December 6, 2022, the Northwest Healthcare Response Network (NWHRN) will be hosting a coalition wide functional communications exercise to test and validate regional communication plans. All healthcare organizations and response agencies located in the NWHRN coalition area are welcome to participate.

Exercise Schedule:

Between 10am and 11am on December 6, 2022, an alert will go out to all NWHRN emergency contacts. This will kick off the hour-long exercise. Exercise participants will be required to respond to the alert and will then spend the following hour reaching out to internal and external contacts listed in their emergency operations plans. We ask that participants do not call 911.

At the end of the hour, the NWHRN will send out another alert ending the exercise and providing a post-exercise survey link. Credit for participating in the exercise is based on completing the survey. Participating facilities will be listed in the coalition after action report, which can be used to meet regulatory exercise requirements.

How to register:

There is no registration required to participate in the exercise. However, the NWHRN must have a contact listed for your facility to receive the exercise alerts. If you are unsure whether the NWHRN has your facility’s contact information, please send an email to info@nwhrn.org

Exercise Rules of Play:

  1. Do not call 9-1-1, even if it is in your communications plan.
  2. All communication messages should begin and end with “THIS IS AN EXERCISE”.

Example script: “THIS IS AN EXERCISE. Hi, this is ___insert name___ from ___insert organization/agency__, attempting to contact ___insert name of partner___. (After you confirm it is the correct point of contact) Thank you for your help! THIS IS AN EXERCISE.” Hang up.

  1. Test at least three different communication systems (e.g. email, text, and phone) and contact at least two different points-of-contact listed in your emergency communications plan.

If you have any exercise questions, please contact Nate Matthews-Trigg at nate.matthewstrigg@nwhrn.or
