Northwest Healthcare Response Network Panel Discussion – Montesano Health and Rehab Full Evacuation

NWHRN greatly appreciates the collaboration with numerous response partners that led to the Montesano response panel discussions, as well as the ongoing interest from coalition partners to share this recording and further learning opportunities within their own agencies.

Things to think about as you review this discussion-

  • Have you engaged your local fire department in your emergency or evacuation planning?
  • Have you included private ambulance companies in your planning?.
  • Are your facility assessment, emergency plans and evacuation plans up to date?
  • If you are using the LeadingAge WA eprep app, is it up to date?
    • Have you shared read only access with your EMS, staff and family members?
    • Is your floor plan downloaded?
  • Is your emergency contact list up to date?
    • Including cell phone numbers of your business partners?
    • Including cell phone number for the 24 hour duty officer at your Healthcare Coalition (NWHRN-REDi-Healthcare Alliance)
  • Do you have transfer agreements signed with local SNFs and Assisted Livings?
  • Have you seen your designated evacuation place in person?
    • Is there enough space for cots?
    • Are there enough plugs for oxygen?
    • Is there easy access for buses/ambulances?
    • Is there easy access for wheelchairs/stretchers?
    • Is there a place to have an emergency operations center?
  • If you have more than one floor in your building, how would you evacuate your residents?
    • How would you evacuate bedbound residents?
    • How would you evacuate any bariatric residents?
    • Do you have “go bags” for residents assembled with clothing, incontinence products?
    • Do you have a process for tracking residents – including tracking them as they leave and arrive at new facility?
    • Do you have a process for identifying code status of residents?
    • Do you have access to WA Trac-and know how to use it for patient tracking?
  • If you have more than one floor in your building, how would you move your med carts out?
    • Do you have a laptop ready to go with your EMR updated and ready?
    • Do you have a process for getting the medication list to the new facility?
  • Where is your supply of emergency supplies, including food and water?
  • Do you have an incident command protocol in place?
    • Who will Fire/EMS connect with as they arrive at the facility, and throughout the emergency?
    • Do you have a contact point for family members?
    • Do you have a contact point for any media requests
