GENERAL SUMMARY: The Resident Nurse Manager has 24-hour accountability, management and responsibility of a neighborhood, including the development and implementation of a service model that integrates the concept of choice, privacy, dignity and individuality for residents in a home-like environment. This position collaborates with all members of the health care team to develop and maintain a high quality of nursing care for their assigned residents. The Nurse Manager monitors expenses to budget, monitor daily staffing levels and quality management programs and supervises the charge nurse, medication nurse, MDS nurse and the Unit Clerk(s). This position works flexible hours and shifts to meet 24-hour accountability and responsibility with other Nurse Managers.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Job Duties
1. Leadership Role:
• Apply problem-solving principles in care delivery process for continuous improvement.
• Provide input to change process and support DNS and Nursing Center in process.
• Foster an environment of trust, collaboration and leadership by example.
• Complete and assist with disciplinary action of assigned nursing personnel and counsel as necessary.
• Oversee and manage budget for the neighborhood unit, both managing expenses (particularly overtime) and maximizing revenue, including oversight of
MDS accuracy. Provide input and participate in budget process.
• Serve on nursing and facility committees as appropriate.
• Complete employee evaluation for direct reports. Ensure timely completion of all performance reviews for neighborhood care team.
• Model spiritual leadership through participation and/or leading weekly devotions, prayer and encouraging staff to develop their spiritual walk.

2. Communication:
• Interpret and adhere to established policies of Nursing Center and assist staff in these areas.
• Report problems, needs, concerns to DNS as necessary. Significant issues will be immediately communicated to the DNS and Administrator.
• Conduct unit meetings regularly to ensure open and continuous communication.
Serve as conduit for corporate and facility communications.
• Ensure that 24-hour shift report is completed.
• Ensure accurate completion of the resident chart in collaboration with Medical Records.
• Act as a resource person and seek guidance from available resources.

3. Regulatory:
• Recognize legal responsibilities and functions within scope of practice.
• Adhere to State rules and regulations concerning delivery of resident care and ensure that the highest caliber nursing services are provided and documented.
• Ensure that resident admission status is assessed and documented within 8 hours of admission.
• Ensure the completion of the MDS for assigned residents per state and federal regulations.
• Ensure that a plan of care for nursing services is developed and documented within 24 hours of admission, and completed within 14 days.
• Ensure that residents’ condition is updated and reviewed when residents’ condition changes and no less than quarterly, both in resident record and care plan.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and errors and initiate corrective action as necessary.
• Participate in State Survey, compliance audits and continuing quality improvement processes to meet regulatory and licensing requirements.
• Oversee licensure requirements and quality management programs.
• Accurately assess and document care required for the resident. Review the quality of chart documentation on a random and on-going basis.
• Perform pre-admission screening of potential admissions and collaborate with the admission team for appropriate placement.
• Evaluate nursing care delivery by administering resident care audits and making rounds on a daily basis.
• Direct resident care conferences or provide oversight to designee.
• Accurately assess resident and psychosocial status in collaboration with the neighborhood care team.
• Participate in infection control procedures as needed and ensure compliance with these procedures in neighborhood unit.

4. Judgment:
• Ensure that the care plan considers the wishes of the resident and significant others.
• Ensure the implementation of care plans by the neighborhood care team.
• Ensure that realistic measurable goals are developed for each resident.
• Participate in Quality Assurance endeavors to realize continuous improvement.
• Participate as part of the Nursing leadership in providing input to planning projects and budgets and assisting staff to move with the organization.
• Serve as a seasoned leader and as a participant in the Nursing call rotation to provide leadership and judgment during off hours.

5. Observation:
• Read 24-hour report and check resident’s record for documentation as necessary.
• Identify resident illness (via labs and presenting symptoms, etc.) and utilize necessary resources for unfamiliar conditions.
• Report changes in resident’s condition to appropriate personnel (charge nurse, DNS and physician, RD) and document.
• Assist charge nurse with initiating or discontinuing alert charting.
• Review Quality Indicator reports and perform clinical record review as necessary.

6. Training:
• Responsible for personal professional growth and compliance with continuing education requirements.
• Attend outside conferences and share information with neighborhood team and colleagues as appropriate.
• Participate in education of residents and family on relevant topics.
• Share educational information with staff (workshops or journals).
• Advise, teach, coach and develop neighborhood team. Serve as an educational resource person.
• Assist in orientation of new staff to ensure the successful transition into the neighborhood care team.
• Oversee the completion of training and on-going competency of staff. Collaborate with Staff Development to ensure staff training needs and requirements are met annually.

7. Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Neighborhood employees, including the responsibility for hiring, training, evaluating, correcting, recommending pay adjustments and recommending termination.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Christian Commitment: Strong personal faith in Christ.

2. Education:
• Graduate of an accredited program of nursing education.
• Experienced in the care of geriatric residents as evidenced by completed courses and clinical practice.

3. Experience:
• Proven ability to communicate effectively to staff and residents.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities.

4. Licensure/Certification: RN or LPN – current license to practice in the State of Washington.

5. Other Considerations: Subject to call-back during emergent or special situations. Healthcare provider required to comply with the federal law (HIPAA) that addresses privacy and security of protected health information. HIPAA training required since access to resident health information is needed.

6. Software and Equipment Used: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Black Baud, Quick Care.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
• Experience in multidisciplinary matrix team setting
• Experience managing a budget
• At least two years of increasing responsibility with a long term care setting.
