Nursing Commission Approves Revisions to RN and LPN Scope of Practice Advisory Opinion

LeadingAge WA has been working with the Nursing Commission for the last year on LPN Scope of Practice in Home and Community Based settings. We were pleased to see The NCQAC voted to adopt the changes to the Advisory Opinion that LeadingAge WA has been advocating for.  We strongly believe that LPNs play a vital role in the Assisted Living setting.  The adopted changes and FAQs clarify nursing services and personal care tasks. This separation allows LPNs to continue to work up to the full extent, within the legal boundaries, of their education and training.  When intermittent nursing services are not required, the LPN can continue to complete the pre-admission assessment and oversight of nursing assistants.
