HHS Secretary Alex Azar has renewed the Public Health Emergency, effective Saturday, July 25. The PHE will last 90 days or terminate earlier if the Secretary determines the emergency has ceased to exist. The renewal of the PHE means the Section 1135 waivers that have provided some relief to aging services providers will continue unless individually terminated by the department. The 1135 waivers have relaxed the 3 day hospital stay requirement , expanded telehealth, and allowed flexibility in billing for HCBS providers. The extension of the PHE also continues the federal 6.2% FMAP increase. You can read more about the extension here.
