MFAR Transparency Act

MFAR Transparency Act

Bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the House that would block the proposed Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Regulation (MFAR). H.R. 7606, the MFAR Transparency Act would delay the implementation of MFAR by directing the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study on the financial impacts the rule would have on each state. It will also identify what is actually needed in the way of reporting to increase transparency while complying with regulations pertaining to Medicaid. Lastly, this bill would keep the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from finalizing MFAR without Congressional authorization.

LeadingAge is a supporting organization on the sponsors’ Dear Colleague letter. We are working to secure further cosponsors and build support for the bill.

As a reminder, MFAR was the proposed rule that could eliminate any exemptions from Washington’s Safety Net Assessment (SNA). This would include any CCRC/LPC provider tax exemptions associated with the SNA.

We will keep you updated as more information and opportunities for advocacy become available.
