CMS Updates Long Term Care Survey Protocols (LTCSP)

CMS has updated the Long-Term Care Survey Protocols, including the CMS 802, and Survey Resources folder, including the Infection Control Survey Pathway.  Please Note:  Even though the ‘active screening” for residents has been removed by CDC and CMS, this is still in the Infection Control Pathway under surveillance.  You will need to make sure your surveillance policy/plan states when you will be documenting resident screening.

The CDC guidance for automatic transmission-based precautions (TBP) and quarantine for new admissions has also been removed.  If you choose to admit a new resident into TBP and quarantine per your own policy and they test positive for COVID 2-3 days later, this will not trigger a new nursing home acquired outbreak and subsequent investigation.  However, if you choose not to place new admissions in TBP and quarantine, they are admitted directly to a unit, and they test positive 2-3 days later, this WILL trigger a new nursing home acquired outbreak investigation, because they potentially exposed others.
