Webinar Title:  Substance Use Disorder in Nursing

Description: The prevalence of substance use disorder in nurses is estimated to be 12-15% with a higher incidence of prescription drug misuse than the general population.  Now current research is unveiling that nurses are increasingly turning to the use of alcohol to cope with the stresses resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This presentation will provide information on substance use disorder among health professionals, risk factors specific to nursing, signs and symptoms, and intervention strategies.

You will also learn about regulatory reporting requirements related to alcohol and drug misuse, and the Washington Health Professional Services Program (WHPS).  WHPS provides structured monitoring of nurses with substance use disorder allowing nurses to return to practice in a way which safeguards the public.
