ALTSA: ALF #2022-006; ALTSA: NH #2022-016: Recall of Certain Bed Rails
In December 2021, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued recalls for three brand-specific quarter- and eighth-length bed rails that are commonly used to assist with transferring and positioning. Currently included in the recalls are models by Drive, Essential Medical Supply, and Compass Health (Carex), and additional brands may be added later. CPSC found these devices can lead to consumer injury or death due to entrapment and asphyxiation. You can find information about the recall at the links here:

The following rules and regulations require facilities to provide a safe environment and maintain the equipment residents use:
- Assisted Living Facilities: WAC 388-78A-2703
- Nursing Homes: WAC 388-97-0880, 388-97-2100; CFR §483.90 (d)(3)
