COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Extended

COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Extended

HHS Secretary, Xavier Becerra, extended the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency today, January 11, 2023, for another 90 days.  Today’s extension of the PHE comes as a new omicron variant is taking hold across the country and only 38% of adults aged 65 or more years have received a bivalent booster shot, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.  The 3-day waiver for hospitalizations remains in effect until the end of the PHE.  The Washington State 1135 waiver for Nursing Assistants to work past 120 days without being certified is due to expire March 23rd.  All nursing assistant registered will need to be certified by that date.

This is believed to be the last extension of the PHE. HHS has stated it will give 60 days’ notice before the public health emergency ends, we will watch for that notice over the next month.
