Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic

The CDC has updated the Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel to include the recommendations for universal use of eye protection (in addition to a facemask) for HCP working in facilities located in communities with moderate to sustained SARS-CoV-2 transmission is intended to ensure HCP eyes, nose, and mouth are all protected during patient care encounters.

There has been confusion about who this applies to, all staff or direct care staff only.  If you are in a county with moderate to sustained COVID transmission, per DOH, any staff person who is in a resident care area (including hallways) must have eye protection in place in addition to a face mask.  This can be goggles or a face shield.  Prescription or reading glasses do not count as eye protection.  Please see CDC information here
