The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Long-term Care Facility (LTCF) Component Module is Live!

Dear NHSN Long-term Care Facility users,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Long-term Care Facility (LTCF) Component is continuing its support to the nation’s COVID-19 response by introducing the LTCF COVID-19 Module. The Module has been activated for your facility.

The Module enables an assessment of COVID-19 in LTCFs, specifically: 1) counts of residents and facility personnel with suspected and laboratory positive COVID-19; 2) counts of suspected and laboratory positive COVID-19 related deaths among residents and facility personnel; 3) staffing shortages; 3) status of personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies; and 4) ventilator capacity and supplies for facilities with ventilator dependent units.

LTCF data submission options include manual entry, CSV file submitted by individual facilities or bulk CSV file upload for multiple facilities. NHSN, in turn, will enable state and local health departments and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to gain immediate access to the COVID-19 data for LTCFs in their jurisdictions. COVID-19 data submitted to NHSN will also be used by CDC’s emergency COVID-19 response and by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’) COVID-19 tracking system maintained in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response.

The LTCF COVID-19 Module web page is Live! Please visit the website where you will find pertinent information, including facility and group resources, data collection forms and instructions, upcoming training opportunities, and more!

Training. NHSN LTCF staff will conduct various virtual trainings and office hour sessions to assist LTCFs with enrollment and data submission. A list of upcoming trainings can be found on the LTCF COVID-19 Module web page under the Training tab. We’ve also listed the training schedule for the week of April 28, 2020 in the next section of this document. The training webinars will be recorded and posted to the LTCF COVID-19 Module web page with a PDF of the slide presentation.

NHSN’s role as a shared platform for healthcare-associated infection surveillance and its collaborations with long-term care facilities and partners throughout the nation provide a valuable foundation for COVID-19 surveillance.  Thank you in advance for working with NHSN as we launch the new Module, provide information about its use, and invite your participation in a new surveillance effort designed to protect residents, healthcare workers and facility personnel, and respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Thank you!  NHSN LTCF Team Printable Details
