ALTSA:  NH #2020-026 COVID-19 COMMUNICATIVE TECHNOLOGY GRANT REQUESTS

Dear Nursing Facility/Home Administrator:

We understand you have received a lot of information in recent weeks and appreciate your service and dedication to taking care of the residents in your facilities. During this unprecedented and challenging time for both nursing home staff and residents, we know how important it is for residents and their families to communicate.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has authorized qualified applicants to submit the Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Reinvestment Application, COVID-19 Communicative Technology Request for the purchase of communications technology equipment and accessories. These funds are to purchase equipment such as tablets (e.g., iPads, Samsung Galaxy Tabs, Kindle Fires, Amazon Echo Shows) and accessories (e.g., protective covers, headphones, cleaning and disinfection products) to assist with resident and family communications. The maximum amount of grant funding is $3,000 per nursing facility.

Exceptions are funded on a case-by-case basis (e.g., for facilities with a large number or residents).

The CMP Reinvestment Application, COVID-19 Communicative Technology Request is available on the Department of Social and Health Services (department) CMP web page here.  This application is designed for this communications technology funding only. CMP funds can only be used to benefit residents in certified long-term care facilities. Also included on the above web page are FAQs related to this funding which you may find helpful.

If you are interested in this grant funding, please review the instructions carefully and complete and return the application to cmpapplications@dshs.wa.g ov.  The department will make a determination on the potential of the project to benefit nursing home residents and improve their quality of care and life. The department will notify applicants of the funding decision via email, typically within five business days. The department will submit applications that exceed the $3,000 funding limit to CMS for review and consideration.

We know that the need for communication technology is great and these funds can truly make a difference in the lives of nursing home residents. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Lawton, CMP Grant Program Specialist, at 360-725-3204 or melissa.lawton@dshs.wa.gov
