This popular conference breakout session is being offered again virtually to give more aging services professionals the opportunity to learn practical strategies for addressing behavioral health challenges across care settings.
 
Behavioral health remains one of the most complex and persistent challenges facing aging services providers. In this engaging 90-minute session, participants will gain neuropsychological insight and practical, non-pharmacological approaches to help leaders and care teams respond more effectively across the continuum.
Participants will explore how brain function influences behaviors associated with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, PTSD, and related conditions, while examining operational strategies that translate insight into action—supporting resident well-being, strengthening team confidence, and reducing unnecessary reliance on medications.
 
Panelists:
  • Dr. Lee Kearns is a clinical neuropsychologist who has served children and adults for over 17 years. He specializes in lifespan neuropsychology, with extensive experience supporting individuals with developmental, neurological, and brain-based conditions. His work includes helping older adults and families navigate cognitive decline, as well as understanding the neurological factors that influence behavior, functioning, and quality of life. Dr. Kearns combines clinical expertise with practical, real-world insight to help care teams and organizations respond more effectively to complex behavioral health challenges.
  • Matthew Zell is a licensed EMDRIA-certified therapist in Washington State working with older adults, adults, and adolescents. Matthew is a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Fielding Graduate University with a concentration in Neuropsychology, where his research examines trauma, psychological flexibility, and human performance. His clinical and research work integrates neuropsychological science with evidence-based therapeutic
