GENERAL SUMMARY: The Nursing Supervisor has management and responsibility for the nurses and NAC’s assigned to their shift. This position collaborates with all members of the healthcare team to maintain a high quality of nursing care for all residents. The Nursing Supervisor maintains the nursing department operations, manages staff, oversees admissions, discharges and emergent clinical issues, and ensures regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Nursing department operations:

• Responsible for daily systems and operations within the Nursing department including surveillance, problem identification and resolution with areas of staffing, environment and documentation on assigned shift.

• Responsible for day-to-day operations; overseeing admissions, discharges, and transfers and assisting with them as needed.

• Evaluate present systems and create and implement more efficient and effective systems to keep the Nursing department running quickly and smoothly.

• Monitor environmental concerns and ensure their resolution.

• Coordinate with the Resident Care Managers for continuity of operations from shift to shift and for implementation of facility department changes.

• Provide clinical resources for the facility.

2. Staff Management:

• Manage the Charge Nurse, Medication Nurse, Treatment Nurse and NAC’s with the responsibility to hire, train, manage and correct performance and recommend termination.

• Responsible for managing staff performance to achieve expected outcomes.

• Ensure staff complies with attendance policies.

• Monitor the 24 hour shift report and ensure appropriate staffing coverage for assigned unit(s).

• Oversee and manage budget, including staffing, and make budget recommendations for assigned unit(s).

3. Regulatory:

• Audit and ensure compliance to Nursing department standard policies and procedures and discipline as appropriate.

• Assist department heads with interpreting and implementing the policies and procedures of CRISTA Senior Living and the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

• Oversee cases of incidents, abuse and neglect and ensure compliance with regulations.

• Develop, maintain and properly document incident reports, abuse/neglect reports and pharmacy concerns.

• Participate in Safety, Nutrition, Nursing Administration, Medicare and Procedure Committees as assigned.

4. Assist the DNS in short term and/or ongoing projects, systems, or studies.

5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Nurses and NAC’s including the responsibility for hiring, evaluating, correcting, and recommending termination.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Christian Commitment: Strong personal faith in Christ, demonstrated in behavior and attitude.

Education: Graduate of an accredited program of nursing education.

Experience: 5 years prior experience in a nursing supervisory role.

Licensure/Certification: RN – current license to practice in the State of Washington.

Software and Equipment Used: Word, Excel, Outlook, Quick Care.

Other Considerations:

• Attend shift devotions rotating on all the units.

• Subject to call-back during emergent or special situations.

• Healthcare provider required to comply with the federal law (HIPPA) that addresses privacy and security of protected health information. HIPPA training required since access to resident health information is needed.

• Proven ability to communicate effectively and supportively with staff at all levels.

• Must demonstrate ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents and families.

• Proven ability to motivate others and lead by example.

• Must be able to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs and systems in area of expertise.

• Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into present practice.

• Read, write, communicate in and interpret English at a functional level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

• Experience in multidisciplinary matrix team setting.

• At least 2 years experience in long term care setting.
