The Life Enrichment Director is responsible for organizing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the Life Enrichment program to meet the recreational and intellectual and social needs of all residents.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Human Services or Recreational Therapy; at least three years of relevant experience that includes management or supervisory experience; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and good computer skills, including the ability to effectively utilize basic software, e-mail, and interactive technology programs to enhance the quality of life for residents. Candidates must have a working knowledge of capital and operational budgets and must be able to successfully manage and supervise staff. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications a plus.

Responsibilities:

Using resident interests and preferences and focused on the Hearthstone philosophy of Service, designs programming for the community to engage all residents in some aspect of program.

Builds a comprehensive calendar which addresses the physical, cognitive, social, and spiritual/creative needs of all residents in the community, including yearly as well as monthly calendar events.

Enlists and supports “resident–led” programming where appropriate.

Ensures seven day/week programming is provided throughout the day, both inside and going out of the community.

Coordinates all out-of-community programs with the Director of Transportation.

Ensures calendars are coordinated and shared with residents throughout the community and uploaded to the Hearthstone website as well as shared with all staff.

Facilitates programming by engaging all residents present to their highest potential.

Becomes familiar with computer input for completion of Life Enrichment portion of MDS within 5 days of admission and as required by regulation thereafter.

Documents each significant interaction with a resident or resident’s significant other in that person’s medical records in a timely manner.

Attends Resident Care Conferences and provides quarterly summary of resident progress toward care plan goals.

Works with the nursing department to develop new programs or services within the department to meet emerging needs of residents.

Provides Dementia Care and Training.

Prepares and maintains the Life Enrichment budget.

Maintains and constructs written policies and procedures to meet federal and state regulations.

Hires and replaces staff.

Coordinates/provides orientation and continuing education.

Coordinates scheduling of staff to meet care requirements and budgetary responsibility.

Conducts regular team meetings and encourages demonstrations of best practices, discussion of special topics, and planning future programs.

Develops a vision for the future and creates a culture in which the long range goals can be achieved.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Recreational Therapy; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience in supervising and managing staff

Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, staffing, and scheduling

Three years of relevant experience required

Highly professional and dependable

Pleasant/friendly demeanor and an outgoing personality

Excellent communication, customer service, and problem solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the internet

Able to utilize interactive technology programs to enhance the quality of life for residents

Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications a plus
