A Horizon House Janitor is responsible for interacting with staff and residents in a professional, courteous manner while performing a variety of janitorial and minor maintenance services necessary to keep the community areas of Horizon House clean and safe.

What You’ll Do

Essential Job Duties:
• Perform cleaning procedures in accordance with facility policy, including but not limited to the following:
o Vacuum, shampoo and extract carpets and upholstered furniture
o Cleaning common and garage areas
o Clean and stock restrooms
o Empty waste and recycling receptacles throughout the facility
• Set-up/tear-down community areas for special events
• Detail cleaning of residential units
• Respond to radio calls as needed
• Respond to and complete work orders as assigned

Secondary Job Duties:
• Snow removal and de-ice building exterior.
• Interior window and screen cleaning.
• Participate in staff training and meetings as directed.
• Other duties as may be assigned by Environmental Services Manager, Lead, or other supervisory staff.

What We’re Looking For:
• Education: High school graduation or GED
• Experience: Minimum one (1) year of janitorial or housekeeping experience in a related field emphasis on carpet and floor care. Experience in long-term care or hospital setting preferred.
• Communications: Must be fluent in English language. Be able to follow directions, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to interact appropriately with seniors. Must be able to fill out and complete work-related forms and schedules
• Knowledge: Good working knowledge of cleaning chemicals, their usage, storage and disposal
• Equipment: Two-way radio, vacuum cleaner, space vacuum, carpet extractor, floor polisher, slow-speed buffer, floor burnisher, floor care and cleaning products, carts, elevators
