The Director of Nursing Services (DNS) is a leadership position at the Sea Mar Community Care Center skilled nursing facility located in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle. The DNS is responsible for the oversight of the Care Center’s nursing functions to ensure the provision of high quality care to all residents in the facility. The DNS must be knowledgeable about nursing home rules and regulations and ensures that facility policies and procedures are developed, implemented and maintained in accordance with rules and regulations to provide the highest quality care and service possible. The DNS is responsible for ensuring the Care Center’s staffing model is maintained, and that staff are trained and competent to successfully perform their job and meet expected standards. The ideal DNS is dedicated to carrying out Sea Mar’s mission by collaborating with facility and organizational leadership to ensure the delivery of excellent care and services.

Essential responsibilities include:
• Ensuring the delivery of quality care and services to all facility residents in compliance with Joint Commission, federal, state and local rules, regulations, policies and procedures including, but not limited to: resident rights and responsibilities, infection control, health and safety, emergency preparedness, resident assessments, MDS completion and care plans.
• Maintain nursing department staffing and coverage.
• Recruit, hire, and evaluate staff.
• Demonstrate and develop excellent team work, both within the department and collaboratively with other Sea Mar departments.
• Provide staff training and ensure staff competency.
• Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
• Develop, maintain and revise Nursing Department. policies and procedures as necessary; ensure policies and procedures are reviewed on an annual basis.
• Oversee Quality Improvement activities for the Nursing Department.
• Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and hold an active license from the State of Washington. At least three years’ experience in long term care and at least three years supervisory experience required. Continuing education requirements must be maintained. Must demonstrate leadership and a high level of professionalism, integrity and commitment to the position and the organization. Must be able to work well with an interdisciplinary team and within a multicultural setting. Must be able to communicate in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Must be able to accommodate schedule flexibility as needed. Must be able to work with minimal supervision, demonstrate good judgment and good decision-making ability. Must be able to do calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as use formulas for dosage calculations and as needed to provide nursing care. Bilingual English and Spanish speaker preferred.
