The Community Relations Director interacts and communicates with primarily external community contacts and organizations, building relationships, following up on calls, interacts with prospective residents and families and staff. Develops and coordinates production of promotional marketing materials by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Essential Duties:

  • Builds, diversifies, grows and fosters strong external relationships, through marketing and networking efforts and represents the organization in Tacoma and Pierce County at promotional events and meetings.
  • Develops and implements goals tracking all aspects of communications, activities, leads and related outcomes using sales data base.
  • Plans advertising, purchasing, incentive, and promotional communication projects, including print, electronic, special events, point of purchase, and direct mail, to fulfill those aspects of the marketing plan.
  • Assists in development of trade show strategies and schedules, and coordinates related promotional project activities. Manages TLRC events both on and off campus.
  • Contracts and serves as liaison with outside consultants, copywriters, and advertising agencies.
  • Authorizes articles and interviews regarding organization’s promotional activities and ensures adherence to corporate identity standards.
  • Evaluates research regarding new market trends and market reaction to promotional activities to recommend strategy adjustments.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with media and off-site production representatives.

Among other Qualifications, the Community Relations Director must:


Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or a related field; or three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent computer skills, including internet research and Microsoft Office Suite required. Knowledge of sales data base program and experience in Senior Living Industry preferred. Valid Washington State Driver’s license with proof of insurance.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
