Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community is seeking an Assistant Cook!

Full-Time Position: Hours vary from 5:30 am- 1:30 pm and 11:30 am- 7:30 pm

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED),
• Or culinary certification from accredited institution;
• Or one year related experience and/or training;
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees in the organization.

Mathematical Skills
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.
• Cooks and presents foodstuffs in pre-determined quantities according to menu and number of persons being served.
• Must be able to meet the demands of a meal serving schedule.
• Read and accurately follow recipes.
• Avoid waste through proper utilization of standardized recipes.
• Know and accurately prepare standardized diets.
• Responsible to record all cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
• Bake Breads and Pastry.
• Serve meals with emphasis on food quality, safety, and presentation.
• Consistently follow department HACCP standards.
• Maintains equipment and work areas in sanitary and safe condition.
• Complete daily cleaning duties.

Physical Demand/Work Environment
• Regularly required to talk or hear
• Frequently is required to stand for 90% of the shift, walk, sit, use hands to finger, feel and handle. Stoop, kneel and crouch.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
