Cold and flu season is upon us. Older adults and people with chronic conditions are at a higher risk for serious complications. Prevention is critical. Here are some tips on how to keep you and the people you work with healthy during this cold and flu season.
- Cover your mouth and nose. Cough/sneeze into tissues or elbows. Wear a mask if possible.
- Have good hygiene. Wash your hands after touching your face, after contact with others, after removing PPE, after handling food and after using the restroom. Use soap and hot water or alcohol-based sanitizer.
- Keep common areas disinfected. Ensue there are proper places to dispose of used tissues. Frequently clean high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, railings, remotes and phones. Clean and disinfect bathrooms more often during cold and flu season or an outbreak. Use disinfectants that are effective against viruses.
- Stay ahead of spreading illness by getting vaccinated and staying home if you are sick. Wear PPE such as masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection
- Monitor visitors. Screen for symptoms when they enter. Post reminder signs for good hygiene
Together we can help keep everyone safe and healthy through this cold and flu season.
