In most cases, active shooters use firearms with no apparent pattern or method to their selection of victims.  Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims.  Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.

There is no single method to respond to an incident, but understanding the risks facing health care environments, understanding what we have learned in tragic active shooter situations, together with prior planning will allow you and your team to choose the best actions during an active shooter situation, with the goal of maximizing lives saved, and moving the situation to resolution, and people to safety.

This webinar will discuss how to prevent, respond, and recover if faced with live weapons in the facility, or an active shooter situation.  Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1.      Describe the profile of an active shooter.

2.      Identify visible weapon and active shooter response steps

3.      Describe the role of law enforcement upon arrival at the scene.

4.      Describe the risks facing health care environments.

5.      Identify prevention steps for your setting.

Audience: All levels of care
