Overview:  This dynamic three-day course is specifically designed for nurses, experienced or new, providing care in Washington Community-based Care facilities (ALFs, ARCs, EARCs and Memory Care). The workshop includes discussion of the philosophical view and important role a nurse plays in this setting. Also included is an in-depth review and interpretation of Washington regulations and standards of practice. Strategies for establishing an effective nursing and health care monitoring program will be examined. Participants will leave with tools and tips for meeting—and exceeding– state survey standards, and for providing the highest quality health care services for their community’s residents. Elements to be discussed: 

  • Examine the unique role and specific job duties of the Community-based Care nurse
  • Review Washington rules related to nursing scope of practice and RN Delegation
  • Assess your current health monitoring system and learn how to improve it
  • Review the components of an effective assessment and service plan system and discuss the nurse’s role in implementation
  • Discuss the Community-based Care nurse’s responsibilities and legal issues
  • Examine Washington Administrative rules and understand the nurse’s role in compliance
  • Review the survey process and effective survey management
  • Enhance leadership and quality improvement skills

 

 

Speaker: Demi Haffenreffer, RN, MBA, President, Haffenreffer & Associates. Demi has made long-term care her profession since 1973, first as a Director of Nursing and for the past 25 years as a consultant. She has taught workshops nationally and internationally on a variety of subjects pertinent to Long-term and Community-based Care and is highly sought after for her consulting expertise by nursing homes, assisted living and residential care communities in Oregon, Washington  and around the country.
